Legalise Nuclear Energy in Australia

Of the 20 largest economies globally, Australia is the only one with a ban on nuclear power.

32 countries including the US, UK, Finland, and Sweden have used nuclear energy for decades. Today, 50 countries are considering using nuclear energy for the first time.

At a time when Australia is experiencing an energy and climate crisis, we must have all clean energy options on the table, including nuclear energy.

OVERTURN AUSTRALIA’S NUCLEAR BAN

The world is moving toward a carbon-free nuclear future, with more countries turning on nuclear plants. Unfortunately, there's a big, Australia-sized gap in this new worldwide carbon-free nuclear push, and that's because of its outdated ban on nuclear power.

The Australian government has the power to overturn this legislative ban but the government of Anthony Albanese, and his Climate & Energy Minister Chris Bowen is standing in the way of progress.

Belgium

stop the closure of Doel 1

On February 15th, Belgium plans to shut down Doel 1, the first of five remaining operational nuclear reactors in the country. This closure marks a critical moment for Belgium to reconsider its energy strategy. It is not too late to extend and restart all technically feasible reactors.

Spain

stop the closure of the Almaraz nuclear plant

In 2027, the first nuclear reactors in Spain are expected to be shut down. The Almaraz nuclear plant generates 7% of what Spain consumes and avoids the emission of six million tons of CO₂ each year.

Keeping it operational is key to economic development, the fight against climate change, and the well-being of thousands of people in the region. Without Almaraz, the country’s access to stable energy will be seriously compromised.

United States

support nuclear energy in new york

Put pressure on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to support nuclear energy for New York’s clean energy future. You can call her office or send her a letter detailing how existing and new nuclear will be essential to meeting climate goals, a reliable grid, sparing farmland and nature, and providing union jobs.

Global

petition the World Bank to remove nuclear bank

“The World Bank is blocking climate projects that would dramatically reduce the world’s carbon emissions, and lift millions from poverty.

The bank is being held ransom by a handful of anti-nuclear rich countries who have a powerful role inside the bank’s decision-making structure – Germany, Denmark, and others.

This has left the Bank unable or unwilling to even consider a much-needed change in its in climate and energy policy.” - WePlanet
